By bus, the simplest option

The bus remains the most economical way to travel between the two cities. Expect to pay between €6.50 and €7 for a single ticket, and around €12 for a return.

The journey takes an average of 2 hours and 6 minutes, with some more direct buses taking as little as 1 hour and 55 minutes. Several companies operate the route, with departures spread throughout the day, generally every hour, seven days a week. The first bus leaves early in the morning (around 5-6 am), the last in the late afternoon or early evening.

Buses depart from Podgorica bus station, right in the city centre, and arrive at Kotor bus station, a stone’s throw from the old town. As for bookings, platforms such as Bookaway or Obilet allow you to buy tickets online in advance, which is handy during the high season.

By minibus, for a little more comfort

The minibus covers the same route in a similar time, around 2 hours and 5 minutes, but offers greater comfort than the standard bus. Fares start at around $8.

Bookings are made online, and this is often the option chosen by those who want to avoid waiting at the coach station without having to pay the price of a taxi.

By car, the quickest option

If a car is available, whether hired or your own, this is by far the quickest option: a drive of around 1 hour 24 minutes covering 75 km, following the main road leading to the Adriatic coast.

Fuel costs are around €10 to €14, and the obvious advantage is total freedom: you can stop along the way and aren’t tied to a timetable. Parking in Kotor is available near the coach station and around the old town.

By taxi: quick but more expensive

The journey takes the same time as by car, around 1 hour 24 minutes, but the fare is significantly higher: between €50 and €65.

This is the option for those who want a direct service without having to worry about driving, with pick-up available directly from Podgorica Airport (TGD).

From the airport, the direct shuttle

For those arriving by plane, a shuttle runs directly from Podgorica Airport to Kotor in around 45 minutes, for a fare of around €9. This is the quickest and easiest option, as it means you don’t have to arrange an additional transfer to the city centre before setting off again.
